Domain Verification

After adding a site to LegalBanner, you need to verify that you own or control the domain. Verification ensures that only authorized users can configure consent banners and collect consent data for a given website.

How Verification Works

1. Go to Sites in the dashboard and click on the site you want to verify. 2. LegalBanner will show a unique verification token for your site. 3. Add the token to your website using one of the supported methods. 4. Click Verify in the dashboard. LegalBanner will check your site and confirm ownership.

Verification Methods

HTML meta tag (recommended) Add the following tag inside the section of your homepage: ``html ` DNS TXT record Add a TXT record to your domain's DNS settings: ` Type: TXT Host: @ (or leave blank) Value: legalbanner-verify=YOUR_TOKEN_HERE ` DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate, though most providers update within minutes.

Troubleshooting Verification

  • Token not found: Make sure the meta tag is on your homepage (not a subpage) and is inside
, not `.
  • DNS not resolving: Wait up to 48 hours for propagation. Use a DNS checker tool to confirm your TXT record is live.
  • Multiple domains: Each domain on a site must be verified separately.

What Happens After Verification

Once verified, LegalBanner activates all features for your site: consent banner serving, cookie scanning, consent logging, and policy document hosting. Unverified sites can still be configured but will not serve banners to visitors.
